How a resolution case actually works

1

Free 15-min case review

You tell us what notice you got, what you owe, what you’re afraid of. We tell you whether resolution is the right path — and which one — even if you never hire us.

2

Discovery & flat-fee quote

$750 for the deep dive: we file Form 2848, pull every transcript, and lay out the strategy. You get one written engagement letter with one fixed fee for the resolution work.

3

Resolve & protect

We work the case end to end, the IRS calls us instead of you, and we close it out. Then IRS Watch keeps the next surprise from finding you a year later.

Transparent, flat-fee pricing

No hourly drift. No "pennies on the dollar" theater.

You get a written scope and a fixed price before any work starts. 50% retainer up front, balance on filing.

* Macky Tax is a remote-first practice. Audit Representation pricing covers correspondence audits and remote / video examinations — the format the IRS now uses for the majority of cases, and one we routinely request and obtain even where the IRS initially proposes in-person. When an in-person appearance is genuinely required, we arrange representation at the IRS office through a vetted local co-counsel network and bill that engagement separately.

Why us

A federally licensed practitioner — not a tax-resolution mill.

Big national resolution shops sell you a "program" before they’ve seen a single transcript. James McIntosh, EA built Macky Tax to do the opposite: pull the transcripts first, tell you the truth about what’s possible, and quote a fixed fee for the actual work. As an Enrolled Agent and NTPI Fellow, James holds the same federal credential a CPA needs to represent clients before the IRS — plus the specialized representation training most preparers never complete.

Enrolled Agent — federally licensed by the IRS
NTPI Fellow — top-tier IRS representation training
Years as a small-business operations consultant
Practice rights in all 50 states

Translation: one practitioner, who pulls your real transcripts, builds the real strategy, and stands in front of the IRS for you — without selling the case to a third-party "negotiator" you never meet.

For CPAs & attorneys

Send us the IRS files you don’t want.

If a client lands on your desk with a CP504, an audit notice, or $30K of back tax debt — and that’s not the work you do — refer them to us instead of trying to white-label a resolution mill. Fixed fee, NTPI-trained, your client stays your client for everything else.

Fixed-fee on every case

Your client gets a written quote before any work starts. No bait-and-switch, no hourly drift, no surprise upsells.

We never poach prep work

Resolution is our lane. Your client’s annual filings stay with you — we’ll send them back when the case is closed.

Free transcript review

Send us a 2848 and we’ll pull the transcripts, summarize the situation, and quote — at no cost to you or your client.

Referral relationship, where allowed

Where state ethics rules permit, we offer a $250 referral bonus per closed case. Where they don’t, we reciprocate with planning & filing referrals back to you.

FAQ

Common questions

I just got an IRS notice. How fast can you start?

Same week. Most case reviews are scheduled within 48 hours. We start with a free 15-min review, then move to the $750 Discovery & Investigation engagement: we file Form 2848 (power of attorney) and from that point forward the IRS calls us, not you.

What’s the difference between an Enrolled Agent and a CPA — and why does it matter for resolution?

An Enrolled Agent is federally licensed by the IRS to represent taxpayers in all 50 states — the same representation rights a CPA has. The difference is focus: an EA is licensed specifically for tax. NTPI Fellow goes one step further: it’s the National Tax Practice Institute’s representation track, the credential most CPAs and EAs don’t finish. For a resolution case, that combination is exactly the right one.

Are you one of those "settle for pennies on the dollar" companies?

No. Those ads are misleading and many of those firms are predatory. The Offer in Compromise program is real, but most taxpayers don’t qualify — and the firms that promise everyone qualifies are the same ones being sued by state AGs. We pull your transcripts first and tell you the truth: OIC, IA, partial-pay, abatement, CNC, or just a clean filing strategy. Whatever fits.

How is your fee structured?

Flat fee on every case, written into the engagement letter before any work begins. Standard terms are 50% retainer up front, balance on filing or case close. We don’t bill hourly and we don’t use surprise milestones. If the scope changes mid-case, we’ll requote in writing first.

Do you only do resolution? What if I just need a clean S-Corp return?

Resolution is our specialty, but we also serve a smaller number of business owners and high-W2 earners with proactive planning and filing — usually clients who’ve come to us through a resolution case and want to stay out of trouble afterward. If you’re looking purely for low-cost prep, we’ll tell you on the call and refer you somewhere appropriate.

Do you work with clients outside Ohio?

Yes. EA practice rights extend to all 50 states. We work nationwide via video calls, eFax, and a secure document portal. State-specific filings are handled or referred case-by-case.
